Physiotherapists have provided the following feedback.
Children with cognitive and developmental issues are often exclude from or need a helping hand for certain activities. KidUbar provides much needed support and guidance, whilst benefiting the assistant, often a physiotherapist. Customised assistive technologies are often inappropriate and expensive. The kidubar can be connected to bicycles, tricycles or frame runners cost effectively providing the following benefits as reported by physiotherapists:
1) The kidUbar facilitates assistive technology for certain children where highly customised assistive technology is inappropriate.
2) A gap is filled providing assistive technology between standard bicycles and highly customised equipment.
3) The degree of control required by the child rider can be controlled by the therapist according to the skill level of the child.
4) The relief of stress on the physiotherapist supporting the child is significant versus existing options.
5) The kidUbar facilitates participation in activities for certain children who would otherwise have been excluded.
6) As regards frame runners, the existing options to support the rider are inadequate. Typically a therapist has to “run” backwards to guide the child on the frame runner. Additionally, the therapist is “intrusive” on the child’s space when assisting. The kidubar allows the therapist to control unobtrusively from behind the child.
7) Given the relief of physical stress on the controlling therapist, the sessions times are increased and more effective.
8) The kidubar is effective as regards NDIS effective technology cost threshold. (Discuss NDIS options with your NDIS Service Provider)
TESTIMONIALS
Cathy & John – Westleigh, NSW
“We have tried the new kidubar to teach our granddaughters to ride a bike and find it so easy to use, and it saves our backs! The girls have so much more confidence, not worried about falling with us guiding from behind using the kidubar.”
Cara (Physiotherapist) – Illawarra, NSW
“17 Oct 24 – It’s been wonderful trialling the kidubar with a couple of clients this week (in-between the rain).
4 Nov 24 – I have been trialling with another boy which has been very successful.”
Allison – Turramurra, NSW.
“Such a great idea! Every bike shop should stock these.”
IMPORTANT:
It is important to note that the parent or guardian’s judgement is CRITICAL in the appropriate use of kidUbar especially with children facing cognitive and developmental difficulties. Safety is our utmost priority.
