FAQs
Children with cognitive and developmental issues are often exclude from or need a helping hand for certain activities. KidUbar provides much needed support and guidance, whilst benefiting the assistant, often a physiotherapist. Customised assistive technologies are often inappropriate and expensive. The kidubar can be connected to bicycles, tricycles or frame runners cost effectively providing the following benefits as reported by physiotherapists:
- The kidUbar facilitates assistive technology for certain children where highly customised assistive technology is inappropriate.
- A gap is filled providing assistive technology between standard bicycles and highly customised equipment.
- The degree of control required by the child rider can be controlled by the therapist according to the skill level of the child.
- The relief of stress on the physiotherapist supporting the child is significant versus existing options.
- The kidUbar facilitates participation in activities for certain children who would otherwise have been excluded.
- As regards frame runners, the existing options to support the rider are inadequate. Typically a therapist has to “run” backwards to guide the child on the frame runner. Additionally, the therapist is “intrusive” on the child’s space when assisting. The kidubar allows the therapist to control unobtrusively from behind the child.
- Given the relief of physical stress on the controlling therapist, the sessions times are increased and more effective.
- The kidubar is effective as regards NDIS effective technology cost threshold. (Discuss NDIS options with your NDIS Service Provider)

kidUbar is most beneficial to 3 – 5 year old children, up to approx 20kg in weight. The parent or guardian’s judgement is CRITICAL in appropriate use of kidUbar with all children and especially for children with cognitive and developmental difficulties.
The faster a two wheel bicycle is moving the more momentum there is. Momentum helps to stabilize a bicycle like a gyroscope. The more stability, the less the adult or guardian needs to act to stabilize. So when you are just out for a slow stroll, pushing the bicycle with the kidUbar, training wheels help stabilize while the kidUbar becomes more of a propulsion.
